In this edition of the “Jeengster Spotlight” series, we’re excited to introduce our Head of Client Success, La’Dell Peton!
La’Dell is from Brooklyn NY. He has been Head of Client Success since July 2020, but he actually started his career in Finance! He got his degree in Political Science from Dickenson College because he thought he wanted to be a lawyer. Turns out, though, it was a little too “dry” for him, so he pivoted to something he’s more excited about. La’Dell always had a passion for marketing, so that’s how he got into AdTech — a field he has been working in since 2014.
Let’s learn a bit more about La’Dell!
1. What excites you the most about your role at Jeeng?
I love working with customers, helping them grow their businesses and make money. This role allows me to build a team and help customers make as much money as possible. Plus, this role is brand new – it never existed in the company before.
2. What advice do you have for someone also interested in that type of position?
You have to be resilient and understand that nothing is going to happen over night. You have to be patient and do the work. In my experience, it usually takes me at least 6-12 months to start to see results. Then, that momentum picks up steam. So, when starting any new role, that is how you should think. Another piece of advice is that you should be honest with customers. I always try to do that. In a client success role, you don’t have control over a lot of things on the product side, so transparency and honesty go a long way with customers.
3. What are some of your hobbies?
I love to play video games. Give me any sports game, and I’ll be happy. I also like to workout and especially play basketball (I’m a huge Lakers fan!) As I live in New York, I love trying new restaurants, even though COVID has put a bit of a damper on that. But on the other hand, I started to enjoy cooking a lot more! My “flawless” dish is a seafood pasta from scratch with scallops and shrimp.
4. Favorite quote & why?
“Winning Isn’t Everything; It’s the Only Thing” – Vince Lombardi.
Sometimes I can be a sore loser because, well, I hate losing. But having a commitment to winning and being laser focused is important in everything you do — especially work. And I try to operate that way.
5. Superpower you’d choose & why?
I would like to be able to eliminate all the hate in the world. So, I guess that’s mind control?
6. Favorite place you’ve ever traveled to?
Wow, I can’t answer that! That’s so hard! But, if I had to narrow it down to one place, I would say Tulum, Mexico. It’s where I got engaged and it’s a magical place.
9. Biggest guilty pleasure
10. What’s your biggest pet peeve?
Tardiness. I hate it when people are late or when they make me wait. People do it all the time and it drives me bonkers.
11. What’s at the top of your bucket list?
Well, I studied Italian in college, but I never got to do a study abroad program. So, I would like to live in Europe or travel around there for a couple of months. Everything is so close and easily accessible. You can go to a bunch of places and they are all amazing.
12. What animal best describes you & why?
I guess I would say a dog. I don’t know what breed, but most dogs are personable even though they can be lazy. Sometimes, I just want to eat and take naps. But other times, I want to be around a lot of people. And they all have their own unique personality.
13. How do you manage work/life balance?
I’m not one of those kinds of people who works straight from 9-5. Sometimes, I’ll run an errand in the middle of the day or go to the gym. But I always try to be upfront and communicate with my team and customers about my availability. I just schedule my time, communicate with others, and get my stuff done on time and on my own time.
14. What’s something you want to do in the next year professionally that you haven’t been able to do before?
I’d love to build a team, and I’m actually doing that now! I’m a first time manager (officially) and I’m getting a chance to build a team from the ground up.
